Georgia - Poland ( Eurobasket 2013 )

Georgia Poland eurobasket 2013 picks and predictions
This is another odd looking game which I decided to seek my fortune with.  Georgia and Poland are two teams in group C which try to grasp the last seed in order to qualify for the next stage. In this group, hosting Slovenia and Spain are absolute favorites along with decent but inconsistent Croatian team. If either Georgia or Poland is supposed to qualify, they have to look for challenging Croatia for the last spot. It's tough for them but not impossible. So, to achieve it, the first step is to begin to the tournament with a victory. Because of that, both teams are exactly in the same boat.

Had Tornike Shengelia and Zaza Pachulia been present, Georgia would have been in a lot better position than now. With the absence of those two big men who continue their careers across the Atlantic, Georgia is certainly weaker. Nevertheless, I still think that they are a team not to be underestimated. Poland, in contrast, seems luckier as their star center Marcin Gortat made it to the tournament. Maciej Lampe is another important big man for Euroleague and he's also with the team. American Thomas Kelati is the biggest scoring factor from the back court for Polish side. Similarly, Georgia handed in the same responsibility to another American Ricky Hickmann. Hickmann is a player of great experience, so he undoubtedly brings a lot of competence to their back court as well.

Other thing those two teams in common are their crappy benches. Neither Poland nor Georgia receives significant contribution from their bench players. Basically, both teams count on a few names at most to win the games. They are mainly Giorgi Shermadini, Victor Sanikidze and Manuchar Markoishvili for Georgia and Marcin Gortat, Maciej Lampe and Thomas Kelati for Poland. Not surprisingly, this Georgian trio received +35 minutes each in 88-83 OT loss against Lithuania. This last preparation game being played 3 days ago was a clear indication of how Georgia is expected to utilize its rotation. Poland utilized considerably more guys when they lost 81-68 against Turkey a few days ago.

This tight bench could create a serious trouble for Georgia; however, since this is the first and possibly the most important game of the group for them, they better not complain about it. Georgia lost its last 2 games with very close margins, but both Israel and Lithuania were tough opponents. They are declared as an underdog for this match up which I particularly like. Poland is obviously dangerous inside the paint;however, they also have some problems in play making. Those big men need to be assisted properly which Georgia is supposed to work hard to prevent. Krzystof Szubarga and Lukasz Koszarek didn't impress me much in Turkey - Poland exhibition game. It's up to Thomas Kelati whom could be properly contained by one of the Euroleague's best defensive players Ricky Hickmann.

Good luck and happy betting!!!
