Kevin Foster at Besiktas, Istanbul

kevin foster santa clara besiktas
Last year's Euroleague participant Besiktas has agreed the terms with 2013 undrafted shooting guard Kevin Foster from Santa Clara University. Santa Clara senior Foster received 32 minutes per game last year while averaging 19.3 ppg and 4.3 apg in NCAA.

Similar to last year, the team has serious financial problems and the available budget for new signings are pretty tight. Therefore, the club board works hard in order to scout undrafted talents to present to European basketball in the upcoming year. Besiktas has also announced this year's 53rd overal pick Colton Iverson with 2 years deal for their starting center position.

Zoran Planinic at Anadolu Efes

zoran planinic anadolu efes signed
Anadolu Efes signed Croatian point guard Zoran Planinic to a 2 years deal. After having spent lots of money and being unable to reach to F4 in Euroleague previous season, Anadolu Efes board of basketball operations declared to reduce their budget up to %40 prior to the upcoming season. However, such payroll cut seems to have affected their transfer strategy in rather positive manner.

The club released expensive players such as Jordan Farmar ( and possibly Sascha Vujacic as well ) and chased relatively lower profile names. Planinic, on the other hand, is an absolute boost for Anadolu Efes rotation. Zoran Planinic spent last season playing for BC Khimki Moscow region where he recorded 11.4 ppg, 6.3 apg and 1.1 spg in THY Euroleague. He's a tall point guard who can create serious mismatch on behalf of Anadolu Efes in the point guard position.

His arrival could also help his countryman Stanko Barac to increase his efficiency.

Jon Diebler set to remain in Turkey for 2013-2014 season

American shooting guard Jon Diebler has just agreed a deal regarding one year extension of his contract with Pinar Karsiyaka. Jon Diebler who was drafted by Trail Blazers in the second round of 2011 Nba Draft. Last season, he averaged 11.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. He shot %41.4 behind the arc while his field goal percentage was about %59 in Turkish Basketball League.

Pinar Karsiyaka also signed point guard Bobby Dixon to another year, so the remain of Diebler alongside with Dixon is a decent news in order to retain their team chemistry prior to the upcoming season.

Josip Vrankovic signed with Turk Telekom

Josip Vrankovic Turk Telekom
After a terrible season as usual, Turk Telekom revealed an interesting choice by signing former Crotian National Team head coach Josip Vrankovic to a 2 years deal. Turk Telekom Ankara has a team with a budget arguably way above the league average; however, the club is not properly run by the management. That's the reason why Turk Telekom is usually named one of the most disappointing teams of Turkish Basketball League.

Such a move brought definitely brings a lot of hope for Ankara basketball. The team might undergo a serious transformation from a delusional one to a competitive one. If they could plan the team and spend the money wisely, Turk Telekom has the potential to establish one of the promising teams of this season. In any case, it's a surely an exciting news for the upcoming season.

N'dong replaced by Jawai

Nate Jawai Galatasaray
Previous season's champion of TBL, Galatasaray Medical Park, filled the absence of Boniface N'dong who recently announced his retirement, by adding Aussie big man Nathan Jawai from Regal Barcelona. According to the sources, the aggreement between Jawai and the club lasts for 2 years. Galatasaray Liv Hospital team clearly has some love regarding Regal Barcelona Centers as both Nate Jawai and his predecessor Boniface N'dong were in fact former Regal Barcelona players.

27 years old Australian Center, if stays healthy through the course of the season is likely to be almost unstoppable in the paint. His addition will certainly strengthen Galatasaray Liv Hostpital rotation as well as boost the overall quality of Turkish Basketball League.

E. J. Rowland is set to play for Banvit Bandirma

E.J. Rowland at Banvit Turkey
Last year's TBL finalist Banvit Bandirma realized their first non domestic signing by adding American point guard E.J. Rowland to 1+1 years deal. After confirming Dimitris Itoudis as their new head coach, the club is expected to undergo a serious transformation towards more competitive form and the addition of Rowland is a clear indication of such upcoming trend.

Mersin Bsb. adds Macedonian Center Predrag Samardziski

2013 Mediterranean Olympics host city Mersin's basketball team Mersin Bsb. strengthened its squad by adding big man Predrag Samardziski for the upcoming season. 27 years old and 2.15 Macedonian Center previously played for Lietuvos Rytas of Lithuania in Turkish Airlines Euroleague.

He also spent a year playing for Olin Edirne in the past, so he's a player who is familiar to Turkish Basketball League. His addition will definitely improve Mersin Bsb. team as they didn't have any player of that size in their squad last year. This upcoming season, Mersin Bsb. team will also play its home games in the new arena built for Mediterranean games, so their management is likely to work hard to establish a more competitive rotation this year.

Given their budget, last year's biggest actor of disappointment Fenerbahce Ulker takes things very seriously prior to the new season. They've just signed inarguably Europe's best head coach Zeljko Obradovic to 2 years deal.

Last summer, Fenerbahce Ulker basketball operations signed a contract with Simone Pianigiani along with many remarkable names of European basketball such as Bo McCalebb, David Andersen, Mike Batiste etc. However, the chemistry just didn't work out and the results achieved by such heavily invested team were disastrous. Fenerbahce Ulker ended its Euroleague campaing by anchoring to the bottom of the competition.

Bringing such a legendary coach on duty, the expectations from Fenerbahce Ulker are supposed to be sky high. Right after his right hand Dimitris Itoudis' agreement with Banvit Basketball, the arrival of Zeljko Obradovic is just another reason to follow closely Turkish Beko Basketball League this season.

Dimitris Itoudis set to coach Banvit Bandirma

Banvit Bandirma, one of the finalists of TBL playoffs and Euroleague Qualification Round 2013-2014 season participant, agreed terms to fill head coaching position Greek trainer Dimitris Itoudis. After the end of the final series, former head coach Orhun Ene resigned from the club, ending an era for Banvit Basketball.

The replacement of Ene with Itoudis is a significantly interesting choice because the club, well established financially over the years, decided to hand in the duty for the first time to foreign hands. They will attend to Euroleague qualification round for the first time within the club history; therefore, the expectations should clearly be high for this opportunity.

Dimitris Itoudis has been an assistant to Zeljko Obradovic for more than 10 years. So, it's a great experience as being a head coach for him as well. Last year, he commented on Euroleague games in the official website of the competition.

In short, It's been a great news for Turkish Basketball League's upcoming season.
