Panathinaikos Athens - Anadolu Efes Istanbul

Anadolu Efes Panathinaikos pick
Euroleague match day 9 is finalized with a heavy clash of big clubs both of which work hard to make their ways towards to quarter finals. In the first leg between those teams, Anadolu Efes took advantage of the absence of Panathinaikos point guard Dimitris Diamantidis' absence and achieved a comfortable double digit victory in Abdi Ipekci Arena. Today, home side Panathinaikos will first try to take revenge against the hottest team of Euroleague and then dismiss the double average clause if they could.

Anadolu Efes began to TOP 16 stage with a heavy loss suffered against CSKA in Moscow and won 7 straight in a row since then. The last two victories achieved against Real Madrid and Cska Moscow clearly announced how serious they are by aiming to reach F4 held in London. The team's motivation is at top level which enables Oktay Mahmudi's entire rotation to give everything they could to win the games. Even players like Stanko Barac, underachieving Kerem Tunceri and Dusko Savanovic increased their performances significantly and helped Anadolu Efes to succeed such a decent streak. Clinching another victory today might mean a lot for Anadolu Efes to secure their way to qualification way further.

Panathinaikos beated Zalgiris Kaunas last week on the road and grabbed the last spot to qualify through the group stage. They were heavily outrebounded;however, Panathinaikos still managed to defeat Zalgiris by an amazing final quarter they played. Nevertheless, that game is over, so they better focus on tonight's challenge against Anadolu Efes.If they can't win this home match up, last week's away victory might not mean as much as it would otherwise.

In terms of side betting, it's extremely difficult match up to stake money. Panathinaikos is definitelly in need of victory here, so they better take home court advantage to the full extent. At the first game, Anadolu Efes beated Diamantidisless Panathinaikos well, but this time it won't be that easy. Anadolu Efes can't continue winning all their games, so this streak is destined to end at some point, either today or later. Today, Sasha Vujacic is reported to have injuries and he won't play. Although, he isn't a starting option for Anadolu Efes, he's a great scoring potential off the bench. Besides his shooting skills, he has been providing amazing defensive presence lately.(Oktay Mahmudi assigned him to defend sharp shooter's of his opponents such as Marko Popovic of Zalgiris) Normally, he receives his first minutes mainly in the second quarter, so his absence might help Panathinaikos to take an early lead if they defend well from the first minute.

Considering the top shape Anadolu Efes team is in, I don't expect them to be heavily trailed at the end of the game. The spread imo is quite tricky as 5 points difference could easily be covered / busted in clutch time. By the absence of Sasha Vujacic and Panathinaikos' expected attitude to take early dominance of the game, I'll go for the half time spread today. I expect highly aggressive start by Greek side and finish the first half with a lead as high as possible.

Pick: Panathinaikos Half Time -3.0 @ 1.90
Stake: 8/10

Good luck and happy betting!
