Besiktas Istanbul - Olympiakos

Besiktas Olympiakos pick
Besiktas is hosting Olympiakos Piraeus on the openin game of match day 9 in Euroleague. Although there are seven games left for this stage to be completed, Besiktas without any victory is already eliminated both mathematically and mentally. Visiting Olympiakos has 5 victories out of 8 games and is tied at the 3rd spot with BC Khimki; therefore, it is a game they have to win without a doubt.

In the first game between those two teams, Olympiakos comfortably defeated Besiktas by 13 points lead where they especially dominated Besiktas in the paint. Since then, not much has changed in Turkish side. Gasper Vidmar is still the only warrior inside while Cemal Nalga and Randall Falker provides literally little or no contribution at all. Besides this weakness, strange decisions were taken as well. Curtis Jerrells, the scoring leader of the team was waived. This midweek, Besiktas was shocked by a news coming from other point guard Daniel Ewing. He's been declared to suffer torn ligaments in his ankle, so he'll be out of action for about 4-5 weeks. So, it's a huge question who is left out there to step up to fulfill the scoring duty.

Olympiakos, unlike Besiktas, has a positive momentum by which they gained an upward trend. They've won their last 4 games and since Besiktas is a team beaten by all their opponents, this is a game they have to win as well. The only difference compared to the first match up is the absence of Evangelos Mantzaris prior to today's game. They've recently signed shooting guard Doron Perkins. He's expected to play against Besiktas.

In practical sense, Euroleague season is over for Besiktas. So, It's pretty difficult to estimate both team's motivation and head coach Erman Kunter's rotation. From now on, I have a feeling that he is likely to give his focus more on domestic league than the remained of the euroleague season, so he might rest some of his guys, primarily in his guard rotation. They just faced Fenerbahce Ulker 3 days ago in Turkish league and they'll have another tough road match up in Gaziantep on sunday. Head coach Kunter might not risk some of his guys at all.( Possibly Gasper Vidmar) They've recently signed Ricky Minard. He only played 3 minutes against Fenerbahce, so he might be given minutes to warm up to his new team. Certainly, he can't be expected to be giving much without getting to know his teammates.

No matter whom Georgios Bartzokas utilize, Olympiakos is eager to dominate Besiktas under these circumstances. The biggest problem Besiktas has suffered so far has been the amount of turnovers they did each game. The spread is just over double digit. I expect a comfortable away victory with spread being covered as well. Because of high turnover rate of Besiktas especially in the first quarter ( Besiktas turned the ball over 8-9 times already in the first quarter against BC Khimki last week), I think half time spread is also valuable.
