BC Khimki - Besiktas

BC Khimki Moscow Region Besiktas pick
BC Khimki is going to host Besiktas for the return leg of 75-80 victory held in Istanbul. Visiting Besiktas Istanbul is still without a victory, so once again they'll try to realize a surprise. Home side BC Khimki Moscow Region has the same 4/3 record along with 2 other teams in the group stage, so in order not to jeopardy their qualification, they shouldn't suffer any loss in match up like this one.

BC Khimki Moscow had been one of the most impressive home teams until they lost against Olympiakos last week. Visiting Olympiakos realized a decent come back where the biggest credit is devoted to their superstar point guard Vassilis Spanoulis. He scored 19 points along with 7 assists against Khimki last week. Although BC Khimki players out rebounded their opponents, Zoran Planinic's 17 points and 13 assists performance was just not enough to avoid a shocking defeat. That loss was a crucial one because BC Khimki not only lost the chance to secure the 3rd spot, but also allowed Olympiakos to catch up with them in the standings. In order to avoid further damage, they are expected to show full concentration when they host Besiktas this friday.

Euroleague's financialy weakest team Besiktas still struggles to achieve their ever first win in TOP 16 group stage. Last week, in a game where they did have the highest chance of realizing it, Besiktas couldn't hold onto the lead and was caught by Fenerbahce Ulker in the final quarter. Fenerbahce Ulker who didn't play well enough to deserve a win just surpassed them by experience and sent Besiktas even deeper in the standings. This friday, Besiktas will be playing against a much tougher opponent, one of the best teams in their home ground; BC Khimki Moscow Region.

Prior to this game, some interesting developments happened within Besiktas. Curtis Jerrells who didn't attend to last 2 trainings was excluded from the team. Head Coach Erman Kunter in an interview told that it was merely a tactical decision and the club and Jerrells have parted ways in a professional manner. In fact, the return of long absent point guard Tutku Acik widened his alternatives in the backcourt rotation. In the same interview, he clearly mentioned his disgust regarding Jerrells' too individual playing attitude. His departure might be regarded as a critical loss given his Euroleague statistics so far;however, I do believe that waiving him is more likely to affect the team in a rather positive way. He used to exaggerate the possession of the ball a lot, causing the team to execute difficult shots. With Tutku Acik and Daniel Ewing in charge, Besiktas is expected to play more smoothly on the offense. By the return of Tutku Acik, even the shooting efficiency of power forwards Cevher Ozer and Damir Markota significantly increased because they were provided much more clear shoots against Fenerbahce Ulker. As before, Zoran Planinic is the toughest match up to deal with for Besiktas while BC Khimki Moscow also has a bunch of alternatives in the paint to choose from. To stay within the scoring, Besiktas players have to put a lot of effort to slow down the hosts mainly in the paint.

The victory of BC Khimki Moscow doesn't surprise anyone at all, but i think it won't be as easy as it looks. Besiktas is tend to fight back as they did in Siena or in Istanbul within previous weeks. Head coach Erman Kunter is surely having the same expectations, so he'll try to control the game tempo as long as he could in order to increase his chances of surprising. In an expected low scoring game, I think the given spread is well worth to try on behalf of the visitors. Medium Stakes!

Pick:  Besiktas +13.0 @ 1.90
Stake: 6/10
