Besiktas - Cska Moscow

The defending Turkish Champion will host Russian Champion Cska Moscow tonight at Abdi Ipekci arena. After having won  its first two games in Euroleague, Besiktas Jk lost in the third match day agains Barcelona on the Road, with double digits 72-60. The Istanbul team will face another serious opponent, this time at their home arena.

Cska Moscow was the absolute favourite of almost everyone last year when they established one of the strongest teams nominally. Taking advantage of the lockout within NBA, they convinced Russian star player Andrei Kirilenko for competing an Euroleague title. The team also had important players such as Alexey Shved, Ramunas Siskauskas, Jamont Gordon, Darius Lavrinovic etc. They made their way to the F4 finals as expect by almost everyone, but couldn't prevent losing against Greece's Olympiakos after an unforgettably epic final offense. Although, there are serious differences within the squad, Cska Moscow is one of the top favourites of Euroleague 2012-2013 season again.

Besiktas JK had a faboulous season behind themselves, collecting titles from all competitions they attended last year. However, the club has serious financial problems;therefore, basketball branch started to the season with a much more modest team compared to last year's squad. Thanks to the experience and esteem of coach Kunter, given the budget constraints, quite a competitive team is established. So far, mediocre players such as Curtis Jerrells, Patrick Christopher, Damir Markota, Randall Falker did a good job, keeping the team competent for Euroleague Top 16 groups. Erman Kunter also managed to get contribution from Turkish veterans such as Tutku Acik, Muratcan Guler, Cevher Ozer etc. All these factors account for Besiktas Jk's current 2/3 winning record in Euroleague so far.

Tonight's match up will be another presentation of what Besiktas Jk is capable of or not. After losing against Karsiyaka and against Barcelona, both on the road, Besiktas comfortably defeated Tofas last sunday, regaining motivation. Besiktas Jk performed considerably well when they accelerated the tempo and when they scored efficiently behind the arc. Last week, they tried to control the tempo and the result was a disaster in spite of such mentality seemed to be working in the first half. The coaching staff should have already learned their lesson from last week.

Cska Moscow, though recording 3/3 so far in Euroleague, didn't impress much any of the authorities. Given their budget and individual quality of their players, the  expectations are, obviously, much higher than what they've shown so far. 2 weeks ago, they lost serbian forward Zoran Ergec due to the injury, so he won't play tonight. They haven't played against Barcelona yet but it is hard to say that they performed with absolute dominancy against other teams in the group. Especially against the Partizan on the road, they hardly defeated young Partizan team during overtime.

Considering the current form situation of both sides and the revealed odds, Besiktas Jk is not willing to surrender that easily. If the home team shoots behind the arc nearly as well as they averaged so far, Cska Moscow might not find it easy to cope with. The strength of Besiktas lays within accelerated tempo and good outside perimeter shooting, whereas Cska will try to dominate in the paint through the pick and rolls of Kristic-Teodosic. Gasper Vidmar is versatile defender. Randall Falker was given his first minutes in last week's domestic match up, though he was supposed to be eligible for Euroleague only. Tonight, he might receive more minutes, bringing defensive toughness and more rebound dominancy rather than Vidmar. The handicap spread increases constantly, being as low as +4 before whereas now reaching up to +6.5. Cska is a certain favourite here, but the handicap determined is totally misleading. Bare in mind that, last year, Cska Moscow experienced their only loss against Galatasaray,in Istanbul. They could win tonight, but it won't be that easy. I'll personally wait till the last minute to back from the most advantage spread.

Pick : Besiktas JK +6.5 @ 1.90

Good luck and Happy betting!
